After serving as a pastor for 20 years in Redlands, California, Dr. Rick Langer came to Biola in 2005 to serve as a professor in the Department of Biblical Studies and in Talbot School of Theology and as the director of the Office for the Integration of Faith and Learning. From 2005 to 2024, Langer helped to cultivate a culture of Christian teaching and scholarship among university faculty and taught a variety of courses in biblical and theological integration. His love for learning and desire to bring knowledge in the academic disciplines under the Lordship of Jesus have earned deep respect and affection among colleagues and students, and his leadership has been instrumental in helping to further establish Biola University in its mission to offer a comprehensively Christian education.

Langer holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Philosophy from University of California, Riverside, an M.Div. from Talbot and a B.S. in Chemistry from Colorado State University. His book publications include Winsome Persuasion (co-authored, Christianity Today book award), Winsome Conviction (co-authored, Christianity Today book award), The Call To Follow: Hearing Jesus in a Culture Obsessed with Leadership (co-authored) and Mission-Driven Colleges: Keeping First Things First in Christian Higher Education (co-authored). In 2024 he was the recipient of Biola’s Robert B. Fischer Award for recognition of excellence in scholarship and effectiveness in teaching.

In “retirement,” Langer continues to serve as the co-director for The Winsome Conviction Project, and he continues to write, speak and teach in places of higher education and in churches on faith integration and cultivating Christian conviction.
